Set Up For Greatness: A. Lange & Söhne Introduces Grand Lange 1 With a Reduced Case Height at Watches & Wonders 2022
Demonstrating that in haute horlogerie true greatness lies in reduction, A. Lange & Söhne presents the new generation of the Grand Lange 1. The Glashütte fine watchmaking icon, which has been part of the German brand’s collection since 2003 and was equipped with its proprietary movement in 2012, is now presented with a gray dial and an even slimmer case height, reduced to just 8.2 mm.
The diameter of 41 mm and the hand-wound calibre L095.1, whose 397 masterfully manually finished components are housed in a microcosm that is only 4.7mm high, remain unchanged. In contrast to its sister model, the Lange 1, it has just one barrel instead of a double barrel with two superimposed mainsprings, but still achieves a maximum power autonomy of 72 hours.
The legendary design of the displays with off-centered time indication, Lange outsize date, power reserve display à la “AUF/AB”, recessed azurage subdials and flat appliqués has been subtly adjusted. Meticulously bevelled chamfers provide harmonious transitions from the subdials to the finely grained main dial.
The Grand Lange 1 is available in red and white gold and fitted with a leather strap and retails for approximately $47,570 when converted to USD.
