With its crown and crown guard positioned on the left side of the case and a new green and black ceramic bezel, the latest version of the GMT-Master II is probably the biggest surprise of all Rolex releases at this year’s Watches & Wonders.

As is de rigueur for the Swiss brand, the moulded, recessed graduations and numerals are coated with platinum via PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition). Also new is the date aperture and the Cyclops which are now positioned at 9 o’clock on the black dial that offers superior legibility under all conditions thanks to its Chromalight display emitting a long-lasting glow.

For the modified movement, the Rolex certification as a “Superlative Chronometer” had to be adapted. However, the basic features of the caliber 3285 have remained unchanged: a chronometer certificate, the indication of a second time zone via the hourly adjustable main hour hand, including the synchronized date, the efficient Chronergy escapement and a Parachrom hairspring and 70 hours power reserve.

The GMT-Master II takes off in a 40mm Oystersteel case that is water-resistant to 100 meters. The watch is presented on a three-link Oystersteel bracelet with an Oysterlock safety clasp and extension system and retails for $11,050.
