Pilot’s watches rank among the most sought-after timepieces. Harking back to the pioneering days of aviation, these timekeepers still exude a spirit of adventure and audacity today, although the make and inner workings are much more advanced than yesteryear. Among the first manufacturers of pilot’s watches and a onetime supplier of military aviation, Alpina introduces its Startimer squadron in a new generation this year.

Reviving the design codes of the once airborne originals, the mechanical debutantes arrive in a 41mm stainless-steel case equipped with a notched bezel that shows the Alpina red triangle engraved at 12 o’clock and boasts a fluted onion crown as well as a closed back.

Another nod to the history is the the smaller font of the Arabic numerals. The seconds hand, with a triangular counterweight, has been redefined too.

In contrast to previous executions, the Startimer Pilot Automatic displays the date at 6 o’clock. Powered by the sister brand’s Frederique Constant FC-525 caliber, the watch is being offered in three versions. First, with a black or blue dial in steel – the first with a metal bracelet, the latter with a brown vintage leather strap. The third version combines a black dial and a steel case with a raw-touch black calfskin leather strap. Pricing starts at approximately $1,100 when converted to USD.
