In 1976, Girard-Perregaux unveiled the Casquette, a cutting-edge timepiece featuring a tubular LED display and a bold asymmetric square case. Powered by a quartz movement, the design icon looked very different, tapping into the zeitgeist of the 70s. 8,200 specimen, clad in stainless steel, gold-plated steel and polycarbonate, were produced from 1976 to 1978. Modernly, these are highly sought-after among collectors and aficionados, and today Girard-Perregaux capitalizes upon that demand with their latest release.

In 2022, the Swiss manufacture unveils a new version in scratch-resistant and light ceramic with a Grade 5 titanium case back, weighing just 107 grams and measuring 42.4 x 33.6 x 14.64 mm. Just like the original, the Casquette 2.0 displays the hours, minutes, seconds, day, and date. However, the new movement comes with a couple of additional functions, including the month, year, chronograph, a second time zone and, a “secret” date. This special feature allows the wearer to save a memorable date of a precious event, such as an anniversary. They can have it displayed each day at a specified time.

The Casquette 2.0 is attached to a black ceramic bracelet with rubber interior. It is limited to 820 pieces and available exclusively online from 22.02.2022 to 7.3.2022 on the brand’s website. Subsequently, the watch will be sold by select Girard-Perregaux retailers. Pricing is currently marked at $4,700.
