Montblanc Launches the 1858 Geosphere Chronograph 0 Oxygene at Watches & Wonders 2022

In recent years, the Geosphere has become one of Montblanc’s most popular and sought-after watches. For the first time, the brand is now adding a stop function to this bestseller. However, the 1858 Geosphere Chronograph 0 Oxygene has even more to offer: As the name implies, there is no oxygen inside the 44-mm titanium watch.

Nevertheless, this is not a vacuum as such, but a nitrogen atmosphere. Thanks to special sealing, air cannot enter even when the crown is pulled or the push-pieces are pressed. This lack of oxygen prevents any corrosion inside the movement and case, as well as fogging of the watch when exposed to extreme temperature fluctuations in high altitudes.

As is de rigueur for the Geosphere, its self-winding caliber MB 29.27, based on Sellita SW 300, offers a world time function with the two tiny hemispheres rotating in different directions on the dial adorned with a pattern that recalls a mountain glacier. It is exclusively crafted using an almost forgotten technique called “gratte ébois.” The 1858 Geosphere Chronograph 0 Oxygene, which is fitted with a Sfumato calfskin strap, is water-resistant to 100 meters and limited to 290 pieces. It retails for approximately $8,850.
