Grand Seiko showcases the new Evolution 9 Collection Spring Drive Collection at this year’s Watches & Wonders, now planned to hit the stores in August. The quintet in high-intensity titanium cases comprises of two GMT models, two GMT chronographs and one diver’s watch.

While the famous Grand Seiko style is clearly evident, the line-up is distinguished by wider lugs and more robust bracelets. The hands on the dials with long-lasting luminescence are bolder and more clearly differentiated for great legibility while the numerals on the bezel are displayed by a new font developed for the Evolution 9 Collection.

The Spring Drive 5 Days Caliber 9RA5 in particular features a 43.8mm titanium case that is water-resistant to 200 meters and resists magnetic fields up to 4,800 A/m. This diver’s watch boasts the spring-drive caliber 9RA5, which was introduced in 2020. Thanks to two barrels, it delivers an increased power reserve of five days as well as improved accuracy of +/- 10 seconds per month.

The deeply black and textured dial was inspired by the Kuroshio Current, also known as the “Black Current,” which flows northward past Japan toward the North Pacific and is one of the largest ocean currents in the world. In addition to the time it displays the date and the remaining power reserve. The inner section of the rotating bezel framing it is crafted from scratch-resistant ceramic. A bracelet with a three-fold clasp with push button release, secure lock and extension system complements the Spring Drive 5 Days Caliber 9RA5 which will retail for approximately $11,600.
